The 2009–10 NHL season is the 92nd season of the National Hockey League. It started in October, 2009 and will end in April, 2010, with the Stanley Cup playoffs to follow, ending in June 2010. This is the second season since before to the 2004/05 lockout in where every team will play each other at least once during the season.
Who do you think will win the playoffs this year? Out favourites are Pittsburgh, Chicago or the Canucks but we'll see. One thing is for sure. The Maple Leafs won't be a threat this year either. Very sad. Maybe next year!
With the playoffs fast approaching there are many exciting games and events outside the rinks that keep hockey fans glued to their TVs and wathing the games live from the hockey arenas. Which teams are going to make it to the playoffs is always the big question? Will the Canadians be a threat to US teams this year after the Olympics? It's about time... How to get cheap tickets to the games? Which goalies will play the important games? And the list of quesitons go on and on.
Interesting website stats from last year: roughly 1.4% of people living in Canada visited the NHL Playoffs 2010 site since between April 1, 2009 and April 1, 2010 (this means aobut 46,000 visits) compared to approximately 0.018% of the US population (roughly 37,000 visits) despite the fact that only 6 Canadaian teams play in the NHL. This means that hockey in Canada is over ten times more popular as in the US! It's only fair to mention that on the other hand, our sister site, NBA playoffs 2009, got over 40 times more hits from the US than Canada.
For those visitors who are new to the game but want to get involved, here are some basics about the NHL: The Playoffs also called the Stanley Cup Playoffs is a hockey tournament played in the National Hockey League between the best teams during regular season matches.
The league was founded Montreal with only 4 teams. After many changes to rules, regulations and new teams joining the competition, the league currently consists of 30 teams - 6 in Canada and the rest in the States. After the cancellation of the 2004-2005 season (over labour issues), everything's back to normal and the games are more exciting than ever.
