NHL 2010 Playoffs Memorabilia
NHL memorabilia is anything and everything collectible in connection with the National Hockey Legaue. Memorabilia either has monetary or sentimental value.
Autographs
Patrick Roy Autographed Photograph
Adding an autograph to an item used in a particular game or by a particular star can increase or decrease the value of the item, depending on the situation. If the autograph has been personalized (i.e. "To Mark") the autograph devalues the item on the public market. Also, collectors put little value on autographed memorabilia that is sold without a certificate of authenticity. Several companies have developed systems to prove authenticity of game-used or autographed memorabilia, and collectors will generally seek out dealers that offer a lifetime, money-back, authenticity guarantee.
Fakes
Because memorabilia is a large industry and some items are selling for astronomical amounts it is not uncommon to find fakes in any collection. Anyone can give you a piece of paper saying an item is authentic. But unless it's licensed by the league or it's something direct from the player, you just never know. So, make sure you do your homework and don't pay big bucks for something that may turn out to be a worthless fake.
